Fees and Rebates
You do not need a referral to make an appointment with Ellen.
Session fees
- Initial appointment: $265
- Standard sessions: $225
Fees are payable at the end of each session.
Medicare rebates (Mental Health Treatment Plan)
If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, you may be eligible to receive a Medicare rebate for psychology sessions.
Under the Better Access initiative, Medicare may provide a rebate of $93.30 per session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year (subject to eligibility and Medicare rules).
How to access the Medicare rebate
- Book an appointment with your GP.
- Request a Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral to a psychologist.
- Bring your referral details to your appointment.
- After payment, your Medicare claim can be processed so the rebate is paid directly into your nominated bank account.
Private health insurance
Some private health insurers offer rebates for psychology sessions under extras/ancillary cover. Medicare rebates cannot be combined with private health rebates for the same session.
You will need to choose whether to claim through Medicare or through your private health fund (if applicable).
Cancellations and rescheduling
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide at least 48 hours notice.
Cancellations made within 48 hours may incur the full session fee, as it is often difficult to offer the appointment time to another client at short notice.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral?
No. You do not need a referral to book an appointment. A referral is only required if you wish to claim a Medicare rebate.
What if I am running late?
If you are running late, please call as soon as possible. Your session will usually begin when you arrive, however the session may still need to finish at the scheduled time.
What are appointments like?
Ellen provides a calm and supportive environment where sessions are tailored to your needs. The first appointment is an opportunity to explore what has been happening and discuss goals for therapy.
What happens after my Medicare sessions are used?
Medicare rebates are generally available for up to 10 sessions per calendar year (subject to eligibility). Once these sessions have been used, the standard session fee continues to apply.
Is there a cancellation fee?
If an appointment is cancelled within 48 hours of the scheduled time, the full session fee may be charged.
